Blog 23: senior project reflection

I am most proud of the way that I convinced myself that everything is okay so I could come down. The reason why I'm in so proud of this because in all my other presentations I was to nervous and didn't do so well and talked to fast but for this one I felt myself open up and really express what I wanted to say.

I would self-assess myself with an AE for my block presentation because I felt so good about it at the end and everyone told me how great my presentation came out and that I had a every interesting topic. I went all out for this presentation and spoke over my talking time.

For senior project Overall I would assess myself with a P because I did what was expect and cared the project through.

What worked for me emencly in my senior project was that it hit home. I was talking about a subject that not only affected the people around me but also directly to myself. My mentors were the greatest help as well.

I honestly wouldn't have done anything differently. I liked how everything turned out.

My senior project helped me gain confidence and feel more comfortable with my own body and it also helped me get a job through my mentors.

Blog 21: Exit Interview

(1) In what way does the fashion industry most influence society?
- By establishing a perfect image
- By creating a culture that society emotionally invests in
- Economically
!best answer!- By establishing a perfect image because most of society tries so hard to follow it and they become so invested that they go through eating disorders and depression, some even get into drugs. This doesn't only affect the individual but also his or hers family members and friends. By influencing even one person the fashion industry can manage to influence a whole community.
(2) To arrive to my answer I talked to my mentor about what she thought was most important after explaining to her my essential question and all of my answers in great detail like I would an exit interview. I also sat down and wrote down a list of all the affects my answers have on society and my first answer came up with the longest list. The last process that i went through to choose this answer was that there was way more research on this topic than the others.
(3) The only problem that I faced while researching my senior project was to find different reliable sources for my third answer. I resolved this by talking to the financial advisers at SwatFame to talk about different sources they might be aware of so i can look up.
(4) Imran Amed and National Institution of Mental Health because they provided actual and experiments to prove what they were saying. They also helped me find some other useful sources.

April

This month I entered all of my mentorship, independent component, and summer hours into my blog. I also poured my thought and heart out in my I-search paper. I have most of that done, all I need to work on is my conclusion. This month I also finished my fourth interview. I'm so excited for this year to be over already.

Blog 19: Independent Component 2

LITERAL
“I, Natalie Byrne, affirm that I completed my independent component which represents 30 hours of work.”
I did more mentorship hours under my mentor Paula M. and Andreina V.
They had me help them fill out paper work and file it where it belonged. They also asked me to talk to the people around the office such as the designer, the cutter, the sewer, and the labeler. I was also asked to look for fabrics and help the designers put together their garments.
INTERPRETIVE
My mentorship helped me develop my social skills and helped me understand the process of the fashion industry. It helped me find my answer two and have backup evidence for it. Also, this experiences allowed me to ask more questions to experts to help explain and understand my topic in ways I never imagined I could.
APPLIED
My Independent component two helped develop my second answer because as I walked around the office I realized how much culture there was. Everyone who worked there had a different background and a different reason as to why they chose the job that they had. It led me to research how the fashion industry can influence our culture and I was at awe with what i found.

Blog 15: independent component 2 approval

1. I would like to do 30 more hours with my mentor Paula M., the technical manager, at SwatFame. Here I would experience more of the real world of the fashion industry by learning what they do through a hands on experience and also learn how to talk to the people in this business.
2. I will keep a log in which my mentor would sign of after the completion of my hours.
3. This component will help me explore my topic by along to see first hand the ways in which the fashion industry effects society. I could also work with the advertisement manager to learn more on the "perfect image" I explained in my lesson 2 and uncover more answers by talking to different personals in the area.

Blog 14: Independent Component 1

LITERAL
I, Natalie Byrne, affirm that I completed my individual component which represents 30 hours of work.
For my 30 hours I made a blue/green dress with see-through gaps with the help and instruction of my mother, Rossana Byrne.
INTERPRETIVE
I worked really hard to make a dress that fits my measurements exactly to my liking. I hand-sewed all of it the way my mom showed me too and used the measurements of skirts and tank tops that I already had. I went out and look for fabrics to my liking and guessed measurements for the gap. The hardest part was to get all measurements to compliment each other to make the dress look even.
APPLIED
My component helped me realize the hard work behind design and creation of a fashion piece. The difficulty of creating a dress to my perfect measure was hard just by measuring my body myself. Maybe it is because I'm an amateur but at the end of trying over and over again I had to use the sizes of the clothes I already have for cut measurements. I now have a better understanding and respect for the real fashion world.

Blog 11: holiday project update

1. Over the break I worked on my individual component, making myself a dress.

2. Making this dress to the measurements I want and style I want helps me express myself regardless of what "society" or the fashion industry leads me to believe.

3. If I were to ask 10 questions regarding my EQ I would ask the fashion marketing crew from my Mentorship because they have most part on the effects to society. Also, they would have more insight as to why the fashion industry have the regulations they do.
